From the movie Carousel and the song Liverpool football fans sing at their matches. The song was sung by the band Gerry and the Pace Makers. The band was from Merseyside, England. The song is very dear to me as it was my father’s favorite song. We played it at his funeral on the 11th of February, 2021, in the height of COVID. He was the grand old age of 94 when he died. Fortunately, his death was during a time when there was no lockdown. Otherwise, we couldn’t have had a funeral service. We were living in South Africa. However, we were both born in Merseyside, which is why the song is so special to me.
